Importing Pets

The Pet Travel Scheme is just a UK Government scheme that enables pet cats and dogs to enter the U.K. without spending time in quarantine.

In order to comply with these rules you should do the next (In Order).
1)
Check the guidelines applicable to your pet on the https://www.gov.uk/bringing-food-animals-plants-into-uk internet site and make your plans accordingly.
2)
Have your animal fitted with a microchip.
3)
Have your pet vaccinated against rabies.
4)
For qualifying countries, after an amount of 21 days following your pet’s vaccination, your pet may then travel to the UK.
5)
If you have any evidence that the pet is fit and healthy (like a letter from the vet stating that your pet has been examined and what the findings were), then this would be helpful.
6)
Between 1 and 5 days before the date of departure your puppy (this doesn’t apply to cats or ferrets) should be treated against tapeworm. You’ll want this treatment completed with a vet and ensure they issue you with a certificate to this effect/stamp your pet’s passport.
7)
Please remember that you will find different rules applicable determined by where your pet has travelled from. If your pet can simply be identified (because thet have now been fitted with a pet passport microchip) then importation will undoubtedly be much easier. Always try and travel with your pet so you are available to answer any questions because they arise.

There are other considerations you should take into account before bringing your pet back to the U.K. as an example the route your pet travels should be approved by DEFRA. The airline that you employ must be an accepted carrier and the nation that you are flying from needs to be a qualifying country.

Pet export

There’s no making your way around it – taking your pet travelling by air outside the UK, whether on a quick holiday or even more permanently, is expensive, time-consuming and could be complicated.

There are certainly a host of regulations which must be followed, both country and airline specific, and they frequently change.

In general, the farther away or maybe more exotic your destination, the more work is needed to meet import regulations, veterinary requirements and to navigate through the area rules.

Our job at Pets by Plane is to help you find the right flights (many airlines won’t carry snub-nosed breeds of dogs and cats) navigate the rules and regulations, advise on the right travel kennel and make sure that your pet can travel comfortably, securely and as economically as possible.

With over 25 year’s experience in transporting animals all over the world, we’ll ensure everything can be as stress free as possible and we is likely to make the calm well-being, comfort and safety of your pet our top priority. We take our motto of’We care in the air’extremely seriously and pride ourselves on giving a separate, efficient and caring service.

IATA Approved Flight Kennels

All dogs shipped by air must certanly be housed in an IATA approved kennel which can be suited to how big is the dog being transported. Food and water must also be contained in the kennel for long journeys and some airlines do exercise any dogs being shipped in the hang on significant stop-overs but for security reasons, this is simply not something which you (if you’re travelling for a passing fancy aircraft) would be allowed to accomplish yourself.

Arrival into the UK

Are you looking for help with bringing your pets to the UK?
Airpets offer customs clearance for pet dogs and cats under the Pet Travel Scheme into the UK from 3rd countries (outside the EU). We have professional knowledge and facilities to make the entire pet import process easy and stress-free for both you and your pet. All you need to do is complete our customs clearance quote application form.

The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) allows pet dogs, cats and ferrets to enter the UK without quarantine provided that they adhere to the regulations. Additionally it allows pet owners in the UK to take their dogs, cats and ferrets to other European countries and then return using them without dependence on quarantine. All relevant documents and information may be down loaded from these pages and all latest info on the scheme may be found on the official DEFRA web page.
For dogs, cats and ferrets entering the UK from any European or “listed” third country the key differences are that the current requirement to carry out a rabies blood test followed by a four-month wait before entry into the UK will no longer be required. For a pet import under the EU Pet Passport Scheme quote – Please click here

Dogs, cats and pet ferrets entering the UK from an EU or ‘listed’third country from 1st January 2012 must: have the following completed in this exact order:

Be microchipped
Vaccinated against rabies
Have waited 21 days after vaccination before entering the UK
Hold an EU Pet Passport or EU Veterinary Certificate (Annex 2)
Tapeworm Treatment(dogs only): before entering the UK, all pet dogs (including assistance dogs) should be treated for tapeworm. The therapy must certanly be administered by a vet not significantly less than 24 hours and not more than 120 hours (1-5 days) before its scheduled arrival amount of time in the UK. There’s no mandatory requirement for tick treatment. No treatment is required for dogs entering the UK from Finland, Ireland or Malta).

Pets entering from a non listed third country must pass a blood test 30 days after vaccination followed by way of a 3 month wait.

To avoid confusion we have prepared check lists for you yourself to print out and decide to try your vet.
