General Information About Exporting Pets
Whenever you request a pet export quotation we quote for many costs to move your pet by air to the named destination airport. If you are delivering your pet to your premises near Heathrow it must arrive a minimum of five hours ahead of the flight. Collections from you (if required) is going to be by arrangement, usually on your day before departure.
There will however be additional charges payable at the airport of destination to cover costs for such items as airline import handling, customs clearance and veterinary charges. As these fees are payable in country of destination, and we’re struggling to pay them in your behalf, so these charges are not contained in the quote (but we will advise you of this).
Costs are determined by the size/weight of the animal(s) to be exported, any extra services (such as UK transportation, kenneling, and veterinary certification), flight time and the destination. In case of dogs, the box size provided is based on the measurements directed at us. Should these measurements be incorrect we accept no responsibility for any delay or extra costs involved as a result.
Animals should be shipped in containers developed to IATA specifications which are the proper size for them i.e. they have to be large enough for your pet to operate without touching the top of the box, take a nap comfortably and manage to turn round within the box. There should also be a fixed water container within the container with a way of filling it from the surface (funnel).
Should you need to utilise our services we will have to have written confirmation with payment when possible and at least 28 days beforehand. We will even need a contact Name, Address and Telephone Number in the united kingdom of destination (the airline will have to ring beforehand to confirm acceptance).
You may be able to take your pet as excess baggage, which would mean booking direct with passenger reservations. This might be a cheaper option (please observe that some airlines cannot take livestock and that there might be restrictions such as standby status with respect to the airline and the route). However if the animal(s) be a particularly large shipment (in Airline terms) or coping with the animal(s) at the same time frame because the move be particularly difficult then we can offer the cargo option as well as other services including collection, kenneling and Export Health Certification.
With info on the measurements of the animal(s) we could build transit kennels to fit. Kennels could be either found from us or sent to any U.K. Airport to coincide along with your check in time or be sent to your home.
Regardless of the mode of travel, pets should go into the cargo hold of the aircraft. That is heated and pressurised to the same extent because the passenger cabin. The animals are loaded into the hold approximately 30 minutes before departure (however the airline requires that they’re delivered in their mind 4 hours prior to the flight) and are unloaded at one other end usually within 30 minutes of the plane landing. Once the documents can be found the animals could be cleared through customs. The handling/vet fees are then payable to the Import Shed Operator of which point the animals may be collected and taken home.
