Transporting your dog to USA

Relocate your pet to USA having an IPATA registered and approved USA dog shipper such as for example Airsupply shippping (passportforpets.co.uk). You know your dog depends on you to help make the best decisions about their welfare and we follow the strict operating code laid down by IPATA. These rules are made to make sure that your puppy isn’t unduly stressed by the travel and that they arrive in the US in good condition. However, we’ve been shipping dogs to the USA for over 40 years and we actually rise above IPATA guidelines because we wish both happy pets AND owners! Our pet shipping business continues to expand and we are able to only achieve this through happy customers who recommend our services to others.
The good thing about shipping your dog to the USA from the Rabies free country or Rabies controlled Country like the UK is that there surely is no quarantine requirement as long as your dog has been doing the UK for 6 months or more. However, your puppy will have to have documented evidence of being vaccinated against rabies otherwise this will lead to entry delays because you is going to be asked to sign a Confinement Agreement (this basically says you will get your pet vaccinated and then confine them for no less than 30 days after treatment). If you should be importing a puppy that is too young (usually under 6 months of age) to have had the rabies vaccination you then will need a Confinement Agreement, see: USA CDC Dog Confinement Agreements for more details. Whilst the CDC (US authority on pet imports) does not require your dog to truly have a certificate of general health MOST AIRLINES DO REQUIRE THIS before they’ll alow your pet to board an aircraft.

Generally, all dogs should be imported or exported through among the

Importing Pets

The Pet Travel Scheme is a UK Government scheme that allows pet cats and dogs to enter the U.K. without spending time in quarantine.

In order to comply with these rules you should do the next (In Order).
1)
Check the rules applicable to your pet on the https://www.gov.uk/bringing-food-animals-plants-into-uk site and make your plans accordingly.
2)
Have your animal fitted with a microchip.
3)
Have your pet vaccinated against rabies.
4)
For qualifying countries, after a period of 21 days following your pet’s vaccination, your pet may then travel to the UK.
5)
If you have any evidence your pet is fit and healthy (like a letter from a vet stating your pet has been recently examined and what the findings were), then this may be helpful.
6)
Between 1 and 5 days before the date of departure your puppy (this does not connect with cats or ferrets) must be treated against tapeworm. You’ll want this treatment completed with a vet and ensure they issue you with a certificate to the effect/stamp your pet’s passport.
7)
Please remember that there are different rules applicable determined by where your pet has travelled from. If your pet can easily be identified (because thet have been fitted with a pet passport microchip) then importation will soon be much easier. Always try and travel with your pet so that you are readily available to answer any questions while they arise.

There are other considerations you will need to take into consideration before bringing your pet back to the U.K. for instance the route your pet travels should be approved by DEFRA. The airline that you utilize must be an approved carrier and the country that you will be flying from needs to be a qualifying country.

The above information should only be used as helpful tips, as the regulations are constantly changing. A complete listing of regulations are available by using the link below to the DEFRA website.

Pet Microchip

The first faltering step to prepare your dog, cat or ferret to enter the United Kingdom is to have your pet microchipped having an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15 digit pet microchip.

If your pet currently has a microchip that’s not ISO 11784/11785 compliant, you then have 3 choices:

You brings your own microchip scanner.
You can contact the officials at the Border Inspection Post where you’ll enter the UK and inquire regarding whether they’ve scanners that could read your pet’s chip.
If your pet’s current microchip can nevertheless be read, your veterinarian can implant compliant chip. The number and implant dates of both microchips should be documented on the EU Health Certificate (see step #5).

A tattoo is a suitable kind of identification provided that it was handed prior to July 3, 2011, is clearly visible and your pet was vaccinated for rabies following the tattoo was applied.

Rabies Vaccination

All dogs, cats and ferrets must have proof of a current rabies vaccination administered following a microchip was implanted to enter the United Kingdom.

The first rabies vaccination following the microchip is implanted is known as the principal vaccination and it should be a twelve months vaccine. If your pet’s previous vaccination had expired before being revaccinated, another vaccination becomes the primary vaccination and it also must be a twelve months vaccine.

All vaccinations which can be administered after the principal vaccination are called booster vaccinations.

If your pet is entering the United Kingdom from a rabies-free (click here) or rabies-controlled country (click here), the primary rabies vaccination should be administered no earlier than 21 days before entering the United Kingdom.

There’s no waiting period after booster vaccinations so long as:

the prior vaccination was administered after having a microchip was implanted AND
the previous vaccination hadn’t expired once the booster was given.

The United Kingdom does honor the 3 year rabies vaccination for dogs, cats and ferrets; however, it should only be administered as an enhancement, not as a principal vaccination. You can get hold of your veterinarian about this.

Once your pet has entered the United Kingdom, a 21 day waiting period isn’t necessary for subsequent visits, provided rabies boosters are kept current, and the other entry requirements are met.

If your pet is entering the United Kingdom from the high-rabies country, it must await no less than 30 days after vaccination before finding a rabies titer test (see step #3).

Banned Breeds of Dogs

The following breeds or their mixes are not permitted to enter or transit the UK: Brazilian Fila, Dogo Argentino, Japanese Tosa Inu or American Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier. Also some forms of American Bulldogs have been found to be Pit Bulls. It’s illegal to enter or transit the UK with these breeds or their mixes.

Dogs can only just be viewed for exemption from UK Dangerous Dog Laws through the courts. Pet owners cannot apply fo exemption when importing their dogs.Only dogs which can be time for the UK after being placed on the exemption list can enter.

Please observe that the ban also relates to dogs that spend amount of time in Great Britain during transit to other countries.

If you have a wolf hybrid or Savannah cat, then you must seek advice from the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency when you travel.

Taking your pet on your own flight

Pets can travel of all scheduled flights from Heathrow and Gatwick to nearly every the main world so in most cases, your pet should manage to travel for a passing fancy flight as yourself if that is what you would like. A lot of the ‘low-cost’airlines do not carry pets however, and you will find few points that should be thought about with this kind of pet shipment.

Firstly, pets arrive to the cargo or freight part of the airport, not the passenger terminal and you can’t take two places simultaneously! If you’re organized attending to your personal customs and visa formalities, your pet might be left waiting for more than necessary to be collected and released from their travel kennel.

Also, it’s worth bearing in mind that most airports require you to take your pets travel kennel away with you. In the event of large or multiple pets, the travel kennel/s may prove extremely tough to transport, particularly if you have all your own personal luggage to deal with too.

Lastly, you will have no usage of your pet from enough time they’re checked in at the departure airport before you collect them at the destination airport, and for many countries such as for example Australia and New Zealand where quarantine on landing is applicable, you will not manage to see your pets before they’re taken to their quarantine accommodation.

If you’ve considered these points and still want your pet to travel on a single flight as yourself, we’ll work together with you to accommodate this whenever possible.

We’re happy to meet clients who are travelling for a passing fancy aircraft as their pets at the London airports on the day of shipment. We’d require seeing copies most of Veterinary paperwork to be sure they’re appropriate for travel and whilst we shall always ask you to check on and check how big your pet and travel kennel beforehand, we unfortunately cannot accept any responsibility for last-minute delays or problems occurred on your day of travel with this kind of shipment. The single most common reason behind these last second problems at the airport may be the measurements being incorrect and the travel kennel being refused as too small for the dog. With the years of experience we’ve with such issues, we shall sometimes ask you often if you are sure about the size as a wriggly dog is nearly simple to measure and we can usually tell if the measurements don’t sound right for the breed of dog.

Many pets that have previously travelled to the UK in a specific size kennel may not manage to travel back out in the exact same kennel as a result of stringent rules applied when leaving the UK. Heathrow and Gatwick airports are between the strictest in the world for animal welfare, and therefore the message here is that if you’re unsure please say so even as we will then make contingency plans for if the kennel is not just a good enough fit.

The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS)

PETS is made to halt the spread of rabies and other diseases while still allowing pets to travel.

Northern Ireland has been free of rabies for several years, in several other countries there’s still a threat of the disease to mammals. The biggest risk for rabies entering here could be via an infected animal smuggled in illegally.

All rabies-susceptible animals entering the UK are normally required to pay four months in quarantine, unless they arrive under and meet most of the conditions of PETS.

All pet dogs (including assistance dogs), cats and ferrets can enter or re-enter the UK without quarantine under PETS provided they meet the guidelines of the scheme, which differ with regards to the country your pet is travelling from.

They might then manage to get early release if they could be shown to meet up the necessary pet travel requirements.

Countries participating in PETS include most parts of Europe and many non-European destinations.

General Information About Exporting Pets

Once you request a pet export quotation we quote for several costs to transport your pet by air to the named destination airport. If you’re delivering your pet to the premises near Heathrow it must arrive a minimum of five hours ahead of the flight. Collections from you (if required) is going to be by arrangement, usually on your day before departure.

There may however be additional charges payable at the airport of destination to cover costs for such items as airline import handling, customs clearance and veterinary charges. As these fees are payable in country of destination, and we’re struggling to pay them in your behalf, so these charges are not within the quote (but we will advise you of this).

Prices are determined by the size/weight of the animal(s) to be exported, any extra services (such as UK transportation, kenneling, and veterinary certification), flight time and the destination. In the case of dogs, the box size provided is on the basis of the measurements fond of us. Should these measurements be incorrect we accept no responsibility for almost any delay or extra costs involved as a result.

Animals must be shipped in containers developed to IATA specifications which are the proper size for them i.e. they should be large enough for your pet to stand up without touching the the surface of the box, take a nap comfortably and manage to turn round within the box. There should also be described as a fixed water container inside the container with a method of filling it from the exterior (funnel).

In case you need to utilise our services we would need to have written confirmation with payment when possible and at least 28 days beforehand. We will even demand a contact Name, Address and Telephone Number in the united kingdom of destination (the airline should ring beforehand to confirm acceptance).

Maybe you are in a position to take your pet as excess baggage, which would mean booking direct with passenger reservations. This may also be a cheaper option (please remember that some airlines cannot take livestock and that there might be restrictions such as for instance standby status with regards to the airline and the route). However should the animal(s) be a really large shipment (in Airline terms) or coping with the animal(s) at the same time frame as the move be particularly difficult then we are able to offer the cargo option along with other services including collection, kenneling and Export Health Certification.

With info on the measurements of the animal(s) we could build transit kennels to fit. Kennels may be either acquired from us or delivered to any U.K. Airport to coincide with your register time or be brought to your home.

Regardless of the mode of travel, pets will go into the cargo hold of the aircraft. That is heated and pressurised to the same extent whilst the passenger cabin. The animals are loaded into the hold approximately 30 minutes before departure (however the airline requires that they’re delivered to them 4 hours ahead of the flight) and are unloaded at another end usually within 30 minutes of the plane landing. Once the documents can be found the animals can be cleared through customs. The handling/vet fees are then payable to the Import Shed Operator of which point the animals can be collected and taken home.

Pet export

There’s no navigating around it – taking your pet travelling by air beyond your UK, whether on a quick holiday or even more permanently, is expensive, time-consuming and can be complicated.

Our job at Pets by Plane is to help you find the correct flights (many airlines won’t carry snub-nosed breeds of dogs and cats) navigate the principles and regulations, advise on the proper travel kennel and ensure that your pet can travel comfortably, securely and as economically as possible.
