Banned Breeds of Dogs

These breeds or their mixes aren’t permitted to enter or transit the UK: Brazilian Fila, Dogo Argentino, Japanese Tosa Inu or American Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier. Also some forms of American Bulldogs have been found to be Pit Bulls. It’s illegal to enter or transit the UK with these breeds or their mixes.

Dogs can only be considered for exemption from UK Dangerous Dog Laws through the courts. Pet owners cannot apply fo exemption when importing their dogs.Only dogs which can be returning to the UK after being placed on the exemption list can enter.

Please observe that the ban also pertains to dogs that spend time in Great Britain during transit to other countries.

When you yourself have a wolf hybrid or Savannah cat, then you definitely must seek advice from the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency before you travel.

Pet Microchip

The first step to ready your dog, cat or ferret to enter the United Kingdom is to own your pet microchipped with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15 digit pet microchip.

If your pet currently features a microchip that’s not ISO 11784/11785 compliant, then you have 3 choices:

You may bring your own personal microchip scanner.
You can contact the officials at the Border Inspection Post where you will enter the UK and inquire as to whether they’ve scanners that can read your pet’s chip.
If your pet’s current microchip can be read, your veterinarian can implant compliant chip. The amount and implant dates of both microchips must be documented on the EU Health Certificate (see step #5).

A tattoo is a satisfactory type of identification so long as it was presented with prior to July 3, 2011, is actually visible and your pet was vaccinated for rabies after the tattoo was applied.

Rabies Vaccination

All dogs, cats and ferrets must have proof a current rabies vaccination administered after a microchip was implanted to enter the United Kingdom.

The first rabies vaccination after the microchip is implanted is known as the principal vaccination and it must be a twelve months vaccine. If your pet’s previous vaccination had expired before being revaccinated, the following vaccination becomes the primary vaccination and additionally, it should be a one year vaccine.

All vaccinations which can be administered after the principal vaccination are called booster vaccinations.

If your pet is entering the United Kingdom from a rabies-free (click here) or rabies-controlled country (click here), the principal rabies vaccination should be administered no earlier than 21 days before entering the United Kingdom.

There is no waiting period after booster vaccinations as long as:

the previous vaccination was administered after a microchip was implanted AND
the prior vaccination had not expired when the booster was given.

The United Kingdom does honor the 3 year rabies vaccination for dogs, cats and ferrets; however, it will only be administered as a booster, not as a primary vaccination. You can get hold of your veterinarian about this.

Once your pet has entered the United Kingdom, a 21 day waiting period isn’t required for subsequent visits, provided rabies boosters are kept updated, and one other entry requirements are met.

If your pet is entering the United Kingdom from a high-rabies country, it must watch for no less than 30 days after vaccination before getting a rabies titer test (see step #3).

IATA Approved Flight Kennels

All dogs shipped by air must be housed in an IATA approved kennel which can be suitable for how big is the dog being transported. Food and water must be contained in the kennel for long journeys and some airlines do exercise any dogs being shipped in the hold on tight significant stop-overs but for security reasons, this is not something which you (if you are travelling for a passing fancy aircraft) would be allowed to complete yourself.

Pet export

There’s no navigating around it – taking your pet travelling by air outside the UK, whether on a quick holiday or even more permanently, is expensive, time-consuming and may be complicated.

There are always a host of regulations which have to be followed, both country and airline specific, and they quite often change.

Generally speaking, the farther away or even more exotic your destination, the more work is needed to meet import regulations, veterinary requirements and to navigate through the neighborhood rules.

Our job at Pets by Plane is to help you find the correct flights (many airlines will not carry snub-nosed breeds of dogs and cats) navigate the rules and regulations, advise on the right travel kennel and be sure that your pet can travel comfortably, securely and as economically as possible.

With over 25 year’s experience in transporting animals around the world, we’ll ensure everything is really as stress free as you can and we could make the calm well-being, comfort and safety of one’s pet our top priority. We take our motto of’We care in the air’extremely seriously and pride ourselves on giving a separate, efficient and caring service.

Transporting your dog to USA

Relocate your dog to USA by having an IPATA registered and approved USA dog shipper such as for instance Airsupply shippping (passportforpets.co.uk). You understand your puppy depends on you to make the best decisions about their welfare and we follow the strict operating code laid down by IPATA. These rules are designed to ensure that your pet is not unduly stressed by the travel and which they get to the US in good condition. However, we’ve been shipping dogs to the USA for over 40 years and we actually rise above IPATA guidelines because we wish both happy pets AND owners! Our pet shipping business continues to expand and we could only achieve this through happy customers who recommend our services to others.
What’s promising about shipping your dog to the USA from the Rabies free country or Rabies controlled Country such as the UK is that there is no quarantine requirement so long as your puppy has been around the UK for 6 months or more. However, your dog will need to have documented evidence of being vaccinated against rabies otherwise this will lead to entry delays because you will undoubtedly be asked to sign a Confinement Agreement (this basically says that you will get your dog vaccinated and then confine them for a minimum of 30 days after treatment). If you should be importing a puppy that is too young (usually under 6 months of age) to possess had the rabies vaccination you then will need a Confinement Agreement, see: USA CDC Dog Confinement Agreements for more details. Whilst the CDC (US authority on pet imports) does not require your pet to really have a certificate of general health MOST AIRLINES DO REQUIRE THIS before they’ll alow your pet to board an aircraft.

Generally, all dogs must be imported or exported through one of many

Taking your pet on your flight

Pets can travel on most scheduled flights from Heathrow and Gatwick to almost every area of the world so in most cases, your pet should manage to travel on the same flight as yourself if this is what you should like. All the ‘low-cost’airlines don’t carry pets however, and you will find few points that should be thought about with this type of pet shipment.

Firstly, pets arrive to the cargo or freight portion of the airport, not the passenger terminal and you cannot be in two places at once! If you’re held up attending to your personal customs and visa formalities, your pet might be left waiting for longer than essential to be collected and released from their travel kennel.

Also, it’s worth bearing at heart that most airports need you to take your pets travel kennel away with you. In case of large or multiple pets, the travel kennel/s may prove extremely tough to transport, especially if you have all your own luggage to deal with too.

Lastly, you will have no usage of your pet from the full time they’re checked in at the departure airport before you collect them at the destination airport, and for some countries such as for instance Australia and New Zealand where quarantine on landing is applicable, you won’t be able to see your pets before they’re taken with their quarantine accommodation.

If you’ve considered these points and still want your pet traveling for a passing fancy flight as yourself, we’ll work together with you to accommodate this whenever possible.

We are happy to meet clients that are travelling on a single aircraft as their pets at the London airports on the afternoon of shipment. We’d require seeing copies most of Veterinary paperwork to make sure they’re acceptable for travel and whilst we will always ask you to check and check the size of your pet and travel kennel ahead of time, we unfortunately cannot accept any responsibility for last-minute delays or problems occurred on the day of travel with this sort of shipment. The single most common basis for these last minute problems at the airport may be the measurements being incorrect and the travel kennel being refused as too small for the dog. With the years of experience we have with these kind of issues, we will sometimes ask you many times if you are sure in regards to the size as a wriggly dog is nearly simple to measure and we could usually tell if the measurements don’t sound right for the breed of dog.

Many pets which have previously travelled to the UK in a specific size kennel might not have the ability to travel back out in exactly the same kennel due to the stringent rules applied when leaving the UK. Heathrow and Gatwick airports are between the strictest in the world for animal welfare, and and so the message here’s that if you’re uncertain please say so as we can then make contingency plans for if the kennel is not really a good enough fit.

Shipping Dogs To Australia By Air

We have been shipping dogs by air to any or all the major continents for over 40 years and as such have a vast amount of experience which we could call upon whenever we encounter the odd unexpected problem. Shipping live animals to any country requires an in depth (and current) understanding of the various rules that apply to the import of animals for a given country.

If you are emigrating or moving abroad for a time frame and desire to take your pet dog, or dogs with you then if you plan ahead, it will be a easier than you think process with the least number of stress for you and your dog(s). Planning ahead means getting most of the relevant vaccinations and any veterinary treatments out the way early meaning that your pets won’t be suffering side effects once they travel. It is also a good idea to obtain all documentation completed and ready to go with plenty of time to spare before your departure date.

Passportforpets.co.uk is just a division of Airsupply Shipping located near London’s Heathrow Airport. General Information About Exporting Pets

When you request a pet export quotation we quote for all costs to move your pet by air to the named destination airport. Collections from you (if required) will undoubtedly be by arrangement, usually on your day before departure.

There may however be additional charges payable at the airport of destination to cover costs for such items as airline import handling, customs clearance and veterinary charges. As these fees are payable in country of destination, and we are unable to pay them on your behalf, so these charges aren’t within the quote (but we will advise you of this).

Costs are determined by the size/weight of the animal(s) to be exported, any additional services (such as UK transportation, kenneling, and veterinary certification), flight time and the destination. In the case of dogs, the box size provided is on the basis of the measurements fond of us. Should these measurements be incorrect we accept no responsibility for any delay or extra costs involved as a result.

Animals should be shipped in containers created to IATA specifications which are the proper size for them i.e. they have to be large enough for the animal to stand up without touching the top of the box, take a nap comfortably and have the ability to turn round within the box. There must also be described as a fixed water container in the container with a way of filling it from the outside (funnel).

Should you wish to utilise our services we will have to have written confirmation with payment the moment possible and at least 28 days beforehand. We will also need a contact Name, Address and Telephone Number in the united kingdom of destination (the airline should ring beforehand to confirm acceptance).

You may be able to take your pet as excess baggage, which may mean booking direct with passenger reservations. This might be a cheaper option (please remember that some airlines cannot take livestock and that there could be restrictions such as for example standby status with respect to the airline and the route). However if the animal(s) be an especially large shipment (in Airline terms) or coping with the animal(s) at the same time frame while the move be particularly difficult then we can offer the cargo option along with other services including collection, kenneling and Export Health Certification.

With home elevators the measurements of the animal(s) we could build transit kennels to fit. Kennels could be either acquired from us or delivered to any U.K. Airport to coincide with your check in time or be delivered to your home.

Whatever the mode of travel, pets should go to the cargo hold of the aircraft. This is heated and pressurised to exactly the same extent while the passenger cabin. The animals are loaded in to the hold approximately half an hour before departure (however the airline requires that they are delivered for them 4 hours prior to the flight) and are unloaded at one other end usually within 30 minutes of the plane landing. When the documents are available the animals can be cleared through customs. The handling/vet fees are then payable to the Import Shed Operator where point the animals can be collected and taken home.

The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS)

PETS is made to halt the spread of rabies and other diseases while still allowing pets to travel.

Northern Ireland has been free of rabies for many years, but in several other countries there’s still a danger of the condition to mammals. The greatest risk for rabies entering here could be through an infected animal smuggled in illegally.

All rabies-susceptible animals entering the UK are normally required to spend four months in quarantine, unless they arrive under and meet most of the conditions of PETS.

All pet dogs (including assistance dogs), cats and ferrets can enter or re-enter the UK without quarantine under PETS provided they meet the guidelines of the scheme, which differ depending on the country the pet is travelling from.

They might then manage to get early release if they can be shown to meet the required pet travel requirements.

Countries participating in PETS include most elements of Europe and many non-European destinations.
