The first faltering step to ready your dog, cat or ferret to enter the United Kingdom is to possess your pet microchipped having an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15 digit pet microchip.
If your pet currently features a microchip that is not ISO 11784/11785 compliant, you then have 3 choices:
You would bring your own microchip scanner.
You can contact the officials at the Border Inspection Post where you’ll enter the UK and inquire as to whether they have scanners that may read your pet’s chip.
If your pet’s current microchip can be read, your veterinarian can implant compliant chip. The quantity and implant dates of both microchips must be documented on the EU Health Certificate (see step #5).
A tattoo is a satisfactory type of identification provided that it was presented with just before July 3, 2011, is clearly visible and your pet was vaccinated for rabies after the tattoo was applied.
All dogs, cats and ferrets must have proof a current rabies vaccination administered following a microchip was implanted to enter the United Kingdom.
The first rabies vaccination following the microchip is implanted is called the principal vaccination and it must be a 12 months vaccine. If your pet’s previous vaccination had expired before being revaccinated, the following vaccination becomes the principal vaccination and additionally it should be a twelve months vaccine.
All vaccinations which can be administered after the primary vaccination are called booster vaccinations.
If your pet is entering the United Kingdom from a rabies-free (click here) or rabies-controlled country (click here), the principal rabies vaccination should be administered no earlier than 21 days before entering the United Kingdom.
There is no waiting period after booster vaccinations so long as:
the previous vaccination was administered after having a microchip was implanted AND
the last vaccination hadn’t expired once the booster was given.
The United Kingdom does honor the 3 year rabies vaccination for dogs, cats and ferrets; however, it will only be administered as an enhancement, much less a main vaccination. You are able to confer with your veterinarian about this.
Once your pet has entered the United Kingdom, a 21 day waiting period is not necessary for subsequent visits, provided rabies boosters are kept current, and one other entry requirements are met.
If your pet is entering the United Kingdom from the high-rabies country, it must wait for no less than 30 days after vaccination before receiving a rabies titer test (see step #3).
General Information About Exporting Pets
Once you request a pet export quotation we quote for several costs to move your pet by air to the named destination airport. If you should be delivering your pet to our premises near Heathrow it must arrive at least five hours ahead of the flight. Collections from you (if required) will undoubtedly be by arrangement, usually on your day before departure.
There may however be additional charges payable at the airport of destination to cover costs for such items as airline import handling, customs clearance and veterinary charges. As these fees are payable in country of destination, and we’re struggling to pay them on your behalf, so these charges are not contained in the quote (but we shall advise you of this).
Costs are determined by the size/weight of the animal(s) to be exported, any additional services (such as UK transportation, kenneling, and veterinary certification), flight time and the destination. In the case of dogs, the box size provided is on the basis of the measurements given to us. Should these measurements be incorrect we accept no responsibility for almost any delay or extra costs involved as a result.
Animals must certanly be shipped in containers developed to IATA specifications which are the proper size for them i.e. they need to be big enough for your pet to remain true without touching the the surface of the box, take a nap comfortably and manage to turn round within the box. There should also be considered a fixed water container inside the container with a means of filling it from the surface (funnel).
Should you desire to utilise our services we would have to have written confirmation with payment the moment possible and at the very least 28 days beforehand. We may also require a contact Name, Address and Telephone Number in the united states of destination (the airline should ring beforehand to confirm acceptance).
You might be able to take your pet as excess baggage, which will mean booking direct with passenger reservations. This might be a cheaper option (please observe that some airlines cannot take livestock and that there could be restrictions such as standby status with regards to the airline and the route). However should the animal(s) be an especially large shipment (in Airline terms) or coping with the animal(s) at the same time frame while the move be particularly difficult then we are able to provide the cargo option along with other services including collection, kenneling and Export Health Certification.
With info on the measurements of the animal(s) we can build transit kennels to fit. Kennels could be either acquired from us or brought to any U.K. Airport to coincide together with your check in time or be delivered to your home.
Whatever the mode of travel, pets should go in to the cargo hold of the aircraft. This really is heated and pressurised to exactly the same extent because the passenger cabin. The animals are loaded to the hold approximately half an hour before departure (however the airline requires they are delivered for them 4 hours before the flight) and are unloaded at the other end usually within 30 minutes of the plane landing. Once the documents are available the animals could be cleared through customs. The handling/vet fees are then payable to the Import Shed Operator of which point the animals may be collected and taken home.
Transporting your dog to USA
Relocate your pet to USA by having an IPATA registered and approved USA dog shipper such as Airsupply shippping (passportforpets.co.uk). You realize your dog depends on you to make the best decisions about their welfare and we follow the strict operating code laid down by IPATA. These rules are designed to make sure that your dog isn’t unduly stressed by the travel and they get to the US in good condition. However, we’ve been shipping dogs to the USA for over 40 years and we actually rise above IPATA guidelines because we wish both happy pets AND owners! Our pet shipping business continues to expand and we could only achieve this through happy customers who recommend our services to others.
The good news about shipping your puppy to the USA from a Rabies free country or Rabies controlled Country such as the UK is that there is no quarantine requirement provided that your pet has been around the UK for 6 months or more. However, your puppy must have documented evidence of being vaccinated against rabies otherwise this will lead to entry delays since you is going to be asked to sign a Confinement Agreement (this basically says that you will get your dog vaccinated and then confine them for a minimum of 30 days after treatment). If you are importing a puppy that is too young (usually under 6 months of age) to possess had the rabies vaccination you then will need a Confinement Agreement, see: USA CDC Dog Confinement Agreements for more details. Whilst the CDC (US authority on pet imports) doesn’t require your pet to truly have a certificate of overall health MOST AIRLINES DO REQUIRE THIS before they will alow your pet to board an aircraft.
Generally, all dogs must be imported or exported through one of the
